Exact synonym

long-chain acyl-CoA synthetase activity, long-chain-fatty-acid-CoA ligase activity, long-chain-fatty-acyl-CoA synthetase activity

Description

Catalysis of the reaction: a long-chain fatty acid + ATP + CoA = a long-chain fatty acyl-CoA + AMP + diphosphate. A long-chain fatty acid has an aliphatic tail containing 13 to 22 carbons.

Related synonym

LCFA synthetase activity, acyl-CoA ligase activity, acyl-CoA synthetase activity, fatty acid thiokinase (long-chain) activity, lignoceroyl-CoA synthase activity, long chain fatty acyl-CoA synthetase activity, long-chain acyl CoA synthetase activity, long-chain acyl-coenzyme A synthetase activity, long-chain fatty acid activation, long-chain fatty acyl coenzyme A synthetase activity, thiokinase

Comment

While there is not universal consensus on the lengths of short-, medium-, long- and very-long-chain fatty acids, the GO uses the definitions in ChEBI (see CHEBI:26666, CHEBI:59554, CHEBI:15904 and CHEBI:27283). Note that this term has a MetaCyc pathway reference as the pathway only has a single step.
