Biological process

Exact synonym

attachment of spindle microtubules to kinetochore involved in homologous chromosome segregation, attachment of spindle microtubules to kinetochore involved in meiosis I

Description

The cellular process in which spindle microtubules become physically associated with the proteins making up the kinetochore complex in meiosis I. During meiosis I sister kinetochores are lying next to each other facing the same spindle pole and monopolar attachment of the chromatid to the spindle occurs.

Related synonym

attachment of spindle microtubules to kinetochore during meiosis I, monopolar attachment, sister kinetochore mono-orientation

Comment

Note that the synonym 'monopolar attachment' refers to the normal attachment of sister chromosomes to the spindle in meiosis I, and not to the aberrant attachment of sister kinetochores to a single pole in mitosis.
