Biological process

Description

A mitotic cell cycle in which mitosis is completed but cytokinesis does not occur, resulting in a cell containing multiple nuclei each with a chromosomal complement of the original ploidy (usually 2N).

Comment

Note that this term should be used for naturally occurring instances of mitosis without cytokinesis, e.g. in the tapetum of flowers and in a number of lower eukaryotes; it should not be used for abnormal events such as may occur in cancers.
